I’m Dr. Shermineh Zadeh, a cosmetic dentist in Encino, California. My work sits at the intersection of health, structure, and aesthetics. I believe thoughtful dentistry should feel personal, preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible, and look entirely at home in the person’s face.

Before dentistry, I studied architecture. That training still shapes the way I see my work today. Architecture taught me to think about proportion, light, materials, balance, and the integrity of a foundation. A beautiful design is not successful if it cannot function well. The same principle applies to a smile.

I later earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology from UCLA and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, where I graduated in the top three percent of my class. I have now practiced dentistry for 12 years.

How I Approach Dentistry

I am drawn to conservative treatment and natural aesthetics. Cosmetic dentistry should not erase the details that make a person recognizable. It should respect their features, age, expression, and identity.

That often means paying attention to very small things: the way light moves through enamel, the texture of a porcelain surface, the position of the gumline, the relationship between a restoration and the surrounding teeth, or the amount of healthy structure that can be left untouched.

It also means knowing when not to treat. Sometimes a veneer is appropriate. Sometimes bonding, whitening, orthodontics, or simply monitoring a tooth is the better decision. I do not believe every smile needs to be redesigned. Good clinical judgment includes restraint.

My practice is intentionally unhurried. I want patients to understand what I see, why I am recommending something, and what reasonable alternatives exist. Comfort, trust, and long-term health matter as much as the final appearance.

What I Write About

Here, I write about the decisions behind careful dentistry. You will find practical explanations of cosmetic and restorative treatment, preventive care, materials, bite design, gum health, and the details that help dental work look natural.

I also write about the less visible side of the profession: quality control, conservative planning, collaboration with skilled technicians, and the moments when leaving something alone requires more judgment than changing it.

My goal is to make dentistry easier to understand without oversimplifying it. Treatment is never identical from one person to the next, and no article can replace a proper examination. Still, informed patients ask better questions and make decisions with greater confidence.

I practice at Encino Dentistry, where I provide comprehensive and cosmetic care with a focus on preservation, precision, and natural results.
